UQ Institute for Social Science Research

About

The Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) was established to allow advanced inquiry into some of the most important issues and challenges facing Australia today.  Through ISSR, UQ aims to establish itself as the national leader for multidisciplinary social science and one of the world's leading social science research universities.

ISSR’s key activities are:

  • Pure and applied research;
  • Postgraduate and postdoctoral research training;
  • Policy analysis and evaluation;
  • Involvement in national and international initiatives to enhance the quality of social science research;
  • Commercial services including data collection, research design and analysis, professional development and training.

ISSR examines national and regional priority issues, and focuses on evidence-based approaches. We address significant questions relating to the wellbeing, security and the resilience of households, organisations, communities and societies, with multidisciplinary perspectives and robust social scientific methods.

ISSR employs approximately 100 research, administrative and professional staff, and has an annual budget of around $11 million.  Our researchers collaborate extensively with colleagues across UQ, Australia and the world.  We also highly value our close links with government agencies, corporations and community organisations.
