AHURI Queensland Research Centre

About the AHURI Queensland Research Centre

The AHURI Queensland Research Centre conducts and disseminates high-quality research and scholarship to inform housing policy, programs and practice in Australia, with a particular focus on Queensland.

The Centre is driven by a commitment to equitable access to housing for all Australians, particularly those who are excluded from full participation in Australian society as a consequence of their housing circumstances.  Access to housing is viewed as central to the well-being of individuals, families, communities and social groups, impacting on many aspects of the quality of life of Australians including safety and security, health, employment, education and social cohesion.  The Centre aims to conduct research that is valued by all sections of the housing policy community, including the public, private and community sectors.

The Research Centre Development Plan, 2009-2011 sets out the Queensland Research Centre's plans for the current triennium.

Staff and centre associates

The AHURI Queensland Research Centre comprises a core group of researchers and a number of research associates located at the University of Queensland.

The Director is Prof Andrew Jones of the University of Queensland.

Our approach

  • To participate effectively in the AHURI research network;
  • To engage actively and closely with the housing policy and research community;
  • To facilitate collaboration amongst researchers in UQ and QUT schools and centres, and in other universities, in housing and urban research;
  • To develop housing education in Queensland;
  • To build organisational and research capacity;
  • To conduct and disseminate high quality, housing policy research.

Research areas and projects

The Centre's core research program is focused on the AHURI research agenda.  However the Centre does, from time to time, undertake externally funded projects primarily for government agencies.  The Centre has identified six priority areas of research and is currently undertaking or has completed research projects in each of these areas.  Read a list of current and past projects.

Funding

One role of the AHURI Queensland Research Centre is to attract research funds to UQ through the AHURI research funding programs.  Read more information on funding.
