The Institute for Social Science Research undertakes research that is evidence-based, problem-oriented and interdisciplinary. Institute research combines strong theoretical and substantive expertise with rigorous methodology to address the most important social issues and problems facing Australia today.
ISSR includes researchers from across the social sciences - sociology, political science, geography, economics, psychology, statistics, international relations, social policy - with expertise in quantitative and qualitative methods, and access to some of the country's best infrastructure for data collection and analysis. ISSR emphasises interdisciplinary expert research teams working in an environment where new insights in social science knowledge and application can be readily achieved.
The Institute for Social Science Research consists of four core research centres currently employing approximately 75 research staff and another 100 affiliated researchers. The Institute is also a leading participant in a number of major national research initiatives including the ARC Research Network in Spatially Integrated Social Science (housed in ISSR), the ARC Centre of Excellence in Policing and Security, the Australian Social Science Data Archive and the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute.
